NYC Watershed Wetlands Map AmendmentNYC State Dept. of Environmental Conservation
Albany, NY 09/17/2008
Bagdon Environmental was selected to conduct the wetland map amendments in the New York City reservoir watersheds. This project will serve to aid in the protection of water quality for New York City water supply system.
This effort involved amending the existing state regulatory maps (ECL Article 24) using remote sensing techniques and field investigation to more accurately map wetland boundaries. Bagdon Environmental was also responsible for revising the base regulatory wetland maps and notifying all affected landowners. Landowner notification and mapping were accomplished using geographical information system (GIS) analysis. The maps and supporting information were presented at public hearings and promulgated as final regulatory wetland maps following the public hearing process.
The wetlands included in this work encompassed thousands of acres located in Delaware, Greene, Ulster, Sullivan, Schoharie, Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties. In 2001, Bagdon Environmental successfully completed the map amendments for the watersheds west of the Hudson River, adding approximately 700 acres of wetlands to the regulatory maps. The fieldwork for the watersheds east of the Hudson River commenced in the fall of 2001. Field verification of wetland boundaries, data processing and map amendment hearings were completed in 2005. Approximately 11,000 acres of newly mapped wetlands were added in Putnam and Westchester Counties.
